He is currently the Member of Parliament for Jeli and was first elected in 1995.
He previously served as the Minister of Entrepreneur Development (1995-1999). As the Asian Financial Crisis hit Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mustapa was later appointed as the Second Finance Minister in 1998 – making him the first Malaysian to hold two Ministerial portfolios at the same time. He has also served as the Minister of Higher Education (2006- 2008) and Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry (2008 –2009).
The last Ministerial position that he held was the Minister of International Trade and Industry (2009-2018), in which he oversaw the five-year long negotiation of the historic Comprehensive Partnership for the Trans-Pacific Agreement (CPTPP).
Dato’ Sri Mustapa holds a First Class Honours degree in Economics from University of Melbourne and a Masters in Economic Development from Boston University. He was conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Commerce from University of Melbourne, and an Honorary Degree of Law from University of Nottingham.
Datuk Dr. Awang Adek has extensive work experience in the area of economics and finance. He spent 17 years with Bank Negara Malaysia before he left in 2001 as an Assistant Governor. He later became the Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad. Datuk Dr. Awang stood for election in 2004 and won a Parliament seat, after which he was appointed Deputy Minister of Rural Development of Malaysia. Subsequently, from 2006 to 2013, he was the Deputy Minister of Finance. Datuk Dr. Awang Adek was also appointed the Malaysian Ambassador to the United States of America from 2014 to 2016. President Obama visited Malaysia twice during his tenure as Ambassador. In September 2017, he was appointed as the Chairman of MARA.
With his vast experience in economics, finance and involvement in various government portfolios, Datuk Dr Awang Adek brings significant value to CEPR in terms of providing valuable insights and guidance to the achievement of the Research Body’s vision and mission.
Dato’ Razman Mohd Noor currently serves as the Executive Secretary to CEPR (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. Previously, he was attached to SME Bank as the Chief Operating Officer (Operations and Group Corporate Management).
With over 30 years of experience in the banking industry, Dato’ Razman has had an illustrative career having been well exposed in Corporate Turn-around exercises, Strategic Planning, Project and Financial Rehabilitation, Risk Analysis, Banking and Credit Portfolio Management.
While serving as the covering CEO of SME Bank, Dato Razman took the lead in steering SME Bank into the next phase of development. The focus was to ensure financial inclusivity, access to financing and enabling the SME sector to contribute effectively toward achieving the Government’s economic agenda.
A graduate in Business Management, Dato’ Razman is very professional in his dealings. His strong trait of frankness, honest, a good listener, highly disciplined and strong drive in problem solving has won respect from his peers and subordinates.
These positives attributes have enabled him to play significant roles in establishing, planning, implementing and managing SME Bank’s financing policies and programs particularly for the Bumiputeras’ SMEs and his contribution of views and ideas are well accepted by the Government, Ministries and other agencies.
In addition to the above roles, Datuk Awalan is also the Executive Chairman of Strovi Tel Sdn Bhd, a bio-medical company which had a Contract Manufacturing Agreement for Plasma Fractionation with the Government of Malaysia.
Prior to that, he was the Managing Director of Solsis (M) Sdn Bhd and Senior Vice President of Dataprep Holdings Berhad (2005-2008) and was a General Manager of Perbadanan Nasional Berhad.
Datuk Awalan holds a Masters of Business Administration from Cambridge Institute of Management, United Kingdom.
Datuk Nik was previously the CEO/Executive Director of BSN Commercial Bank (M) Berhad. During his tenure with BSN Commercial, he re-engineered the bank’s business direction towards assisting Small Medium Industries. He was also the Board Member of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and a Trustee to the Malaysian Humanitarian Foundation.
Prior to that, was also the General Manager of Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (“PUNB”), setting up the funds’ investment division. He also held key senior positions in Maybank Berhad and Affin Bank Berhad executing risk management, strategic planning, credit management, international banking roles in the respective banks.
Datuk Nik holds a Degree in Economics from the University of Malaya.

A Razak left Maybank in 2001 to pursue a business ventures with The Royal Mint Exchange Sdn Bhd, where he was involved the franchise program with the objective of establishing an efficient, viable and profitable financial retail distribution network. Under the CGC’s Business Advisory Service Entity (BASE), his tasks included the preparation of financial projections, market analysis and liaison with financial institutions.
In 2005, he was elected as Chairman of the Committee in Technology Innovation Cluster (a committee formed under the Ministry of Entrepreneurial and Cooperative Development) where he was involved in training 22 entrepreneurs for capacity building in collaboration with MARA.
Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, A Razak embarked in businesses involving green technologies from 2005 to 2013 and was active in an economic NGO, Majlis Perundingan Melayu (MPM), to promote the Bumiputera Economic Agenda as MPM’s Program Coordinator.
He was appointed as a core member of the National EV Program for EPP 9 – Education on Advance Engineering, Science and Innovation cluster hosted by Technology Park Malaysia under the PEMANDU ETP flagship in 2011 and participated and contributed ideas in the Bumiputera Lab programme organised by Unit Peneraju Agenda Melayu (TERAJU) of the Prime Minister’s Office. Since 2013, he has been involved in the coordination and conduct of entrepreneurship development for MPM economic clusters where his contributions include mentoring, training and coaching.
A Razak has been a member of the SME Expert Advisory Panel (SEAP) of SME Corp Malaysia since 2017 where he continues to contribute his experience in the area of credit management, business management and business transformation.
A Razak currently owns and operates a Business Advisory & Financial Consultancy firm, MYD Fintech Sdn Bhd.

He is a graduate of Dublin Business School and holds a Bachelor of Accounting and Finance. He served as an Account Assistant at Merrion Fleet Management Limited in Ireland before serving as an Audit Assistant at Lim, Cheh and Chang Chartered Accountants in Malaysia. In 2009, under the apprenticeship of Datuk Nik Mod Amin bin Nik Abd Majid, he joined Metro Money Exchange Sdn Bhd as an accountant and later on served as the Head of Operations and Chief Dealer from 2010 to 2018 before being appointed as the Chief Executive Officer in 2019.
Mr. Faisal is a trained Technical Analyst specializing in foreign exchange and commodities. He is also contributing to the Capital Investment Bank (Labuan) Limited as a subject matter expert on remittance.
His interest on financial technology and innovation sphere leads him to contribute on delivering strategic support on business planning and market strategy through CEPR (Malaysia) to the private sectors.

In 2006, he started his career in one of the prominent accounting firms, namely KPMG and was involved in providing business advisories services, specifically in the field of internal audit and risk management services to clients from various sectors such as investment, telecommunication, plantation, water treatment, port management and construction.
Currently the Chief Financial Officer of Metro Money Exchange Sdn Bhd, one of the licensed wholesale currency operator, retail money changer and remittance service provider, he oversees the overall financial management of the company as well as involved in other areas such as business development, regulatory and investor engagement.
His experience in accounting and management of various engagements are valuable in coordinating various business initiatives deliberated at CEPR as well as financial management of the research body.

She is currently attached to FCA Capital Sdn Bhd as an Associate since February 2018 and currently tasked to assist and support the professional team on several project finance and corporate finance transactions. Held a short-term position as an Administrative Executive in Mirmas Holding Sdn Bhd in 2017.
A graduate of Bachelor in Business Management (Finance) (Hons), Double Degree from Segi University, Malaysia and Abertay University, United Kingdom. Currently pursuing Capital Market Services Representative License holder (advising on Corporate Finance).
Syafiq graduated from Universiti Teknologi MARA in Bachelor of Business Administration specializes in Islamic Finance. During his study, he manages to complete his internship program at Shariah Court of Malacca in the Account Department where he gained experiences of managing Sistem Perakaunan Berkomputer Standard Kerajaan Negeri (SPEKS), maintaining vot book report, ISO compliance check and managing transfer from deposit account to revenue account.
He continued his passion in Islamic Finance by joining Islamic Capital Market Graduate Training Scheme (ICMGTS), a program developed by Securities Industry Development Corporation, training arm of Securities Commission Malaysia. He was trained in Islamic Capital Market subjects by key Islamic Finance players, also undertook Module 6 and Module 7 preparatory classes of Securities Commission Licensing Examination.
He then became administration executive at Habib Academy Sdn Bhd where he manages expenses account to be audited, drafted Islamic Finance Training for International Students, and prepared agreement with various universities as partners for International Student Admission. Syafiq then joined MYD Fintech Sdn Bhd as an analyst where he was tasked to conduct due-diligence assessment, preparing information memorandum and financial projection for businesses with special projects.
